dc.description.abstract | Harry Love's introduction to his translation/adaptation of Euripides' Bacchae demonstrates a clear if rather superficial understanding of this most difficult and complex of plays. As such the introduction would be suitable reading for students of Classical Studies at high school or at the first-year University level. Whether or not a play of such depth and significance as the Bacchae is suitable reading in itself at that level is another matter altogether, although a convincing performance could presumably carry along even an uninitiated audience. | vi |
