Teaching language through immersion: content–based subjects at tertiary level for prospective teachers of German

Abstract

Rationale for presenting a tertiary immersion model For a variety of reasons the discussion of appropriate methodology in the teaching of languages other than English in Australia has been confined largely to the critical evaluation of primary and secondary language teaching. Schools and their teaching practices, language programmes, language resource development and optimal teaching strategies in re-sponse to challenges such as the multi-level classroom, error fossilisation, leamer-centred learning, cultural awareness programmes and so on have all been presented and discussed, re-examined and re-formulated.
