Abstract: The five books reviewed in this article have all been published by Sheffield Academic Press. This Press has played a major role during the last quarter of the twentieth century by providing a forum for biblical studies (particularly in the study of the Old Testament) that situates it in the critical and theoretical discussions now typifying the Humanities and Social Sciences more widely. The so-called historical-critical approach to the study of the Bible, which prevailed for most of the twentieth century and still prevails in many circles, has been taken up and promulgated by theological institutions (seminaries and theologische seminars).
