Authors: Yuxin Xia (2024) - As the patriotism interweaves with emotional attachment produced by cross-cultural communications, K-pop fans influenced by network nationalism will fall into the predicament of role conflict and adopt multiple coping strategies, hence providing new ideas for revealing the results of overlapped fields of politics and entertainment. Analysis of fans’ behaviors in a series of nationalistic events establishes that these fans attempting to form an emotional community across the border are caught in a dilemma of identity choice with various role expectations. The consequences of the choice are related to some factors such as patriotic cognition, fans’ immersion, fans’ expectations, patriots’ expectations, and risk perception, leading to four attitude tendencies including spontaneous patr...

Authors: Alan Corkhiil (2001) - The collapse of the Gennan Democratic Republicin 1989 brought to light a socio-political culture of gross environmental mismanagement, especially within the heavily industrialized State of Saxony. Perhaps the most notorious perpetrator of environmental vandalism was the industrial complex of Bitterfeld, 'with its suffocating smog and toxic brew of chemicals dumped on waste tips and in strategic waterways.
At Barna and Espenhain, the centre of vast coal reserves to the immediate south of Leipzig, the legacy of indiscriminate mining was detectable in the crater-likelandscapes, polluted air and contaminated rivers and streams. A similar scenario prevailed in the Sorbian-speaking region of Lower Lusetia (Lausitz), home to sixty-five percent of the GDR's predominantly state-owned openca...

Authors: Michael M. Logan (2001) - The following essay appears in two sections, the first arguing that Hannah Arendt's work-understood in the context of Martin Heidegger's interrogation of western metaphysical traditions-follows Heidegger in describing the history of hwnanism and its supporting metaphysical philosophies as an accumulation of a world of appearances, a "world view," that only appears to be natural. "Nature" signifies a link between Arendt's and Heidegger's texts. Human ways of knowing have taken nature's gifts out of their "natural" surroundings, and habitual uses of the word "nature" have, historically, supported domination of nature on the part of humankind, in the name of research. Nature is humankind's way of representing to itself the whole world.1

Authors: Matthew Conn (2001) - From a data-based matrix of information sets in William Gibson's early 1980s cyberpunk novels such as Neuromancer, the look of cyberspace has changed. The landscapes of twenty-first century science fiction, which can be found in recent works such as Tad Williams' series Otherland, now dominate the science fictional cyberspace landscape. Gone are the utilitarian workspaces of two decades ago and in their place are worlds and universes teeming with life of all kinds.

Authors: Wu Li; Meng Chen; Annette Ding; Pengya Ai (2024) - The recent global crisis has had a profound and widespread impact on humanity, eliciting a heightened appreciation for the importance of prosociality. In response, interdisciplinary scholars have called for further research to investigate strategies for cultivating kindness, generosity, and cooperation. To answer this call, we conducted a study examining the potential prosocial impact of online social interactions (OSIs) in two distinct cultures. Through a survey of 644 emerging adults from China and the United States, we found that OSIs positively led to prosocial tendencies in both samples, with social connectedness and trust serving as significant mediating factors. Nevertheless, among the American sample, trust can serve as the sole mediator linking OSIs and prosocial tendencies...

Authors: Chia-hung Tsai; Tsung-han Tsai (2022) - Independence–unification (IU) views have been profoundly influential in Taiwan politics. Polarized political party-related nuclear claims tend to show negative sentiments. As for agenda setting, the big data analysis shows that politics dominate nuclear narratives on news, Facebook and forums. In addition, content analysis reveals that the majority of news articles inv...

Authors: Chi Huang; Tzu-ching Kuo (2022) - The rise of political polarization and its consequences for democracies have attracted much attention. But why the growing polarization? We argue that the main reason lies in the fact people act on the basis of not only their self-identities but also their perception of others, especially those viewed as the opposing group. In Taiwan, independence or unification with China is no doubt the most fundamental political cleavage. We therefore focus on the nature, sources, and consequences of such polarization in the mass public. This study (1) defines and operationalizes both perceived and actual polarization on independence-unification issue at individual level, (2) explores which individual characteristics such as Taiwanese-Chinese identity, partisanship, and media exposure are differe...
