  • Sự tham gia ngày càng nhiều của các chủ thể phi quốc gia vào các hoạt động hợp tác biển làm gia tăng thách thức trong việc quản trị đại dương dựa trên luật lệ. Đối với Việt Nam, đẩy mạnh hợp tác biển là một chủ trương đang được Đảng và Nhà nước khuyến khích. Tuy nhiên, nhận thức, cơ chế chính sách và pháp lý liên quan đến sự tham gia của các chủ thể phi quốc gia ở Việt Nam trong lĩnh vực này chưa đồng bộ và toàn diện, chưa thúc đẩy được sự tham gia và bảo đảm quyền lợi của các chủ thể này trong hợp tác biển.   • Unraveling the relationships between smartphone use, exposure to heterogeneity, political efficacy, and political participation: a mediation model approach

  • This paper assesses how use of smartphones relates to exposure to heterogeneity, political efficacy, and political engagement and suggests a new mediation model that can be applied to mobile communication. Drawing on online survey data collected during the 2012 presidential election in South Korea, this study finds that exposure to heterogeneity and political efficacy jointly mediate the impact of informational uses of smartphones on political participation. The current study also shows that informational uses of smartphones are significantly related to encounters with heterogeneity, political efficacy, and participatory behaviors.   • This study used a content analysis of editorial articles to explore the portrayal of gender in women’s pages of Taiwanese newspapers between 1975 and 2009. In addition to topical themes and editorial format, we focused on how women’s pages present political messages in terms of the topics addressed, style of argumentation, methods of challenging traditional gender roles, and the promotion of provocative actions. We compared the content analysis data with social development indicators and public opinion polls in the contexts of the evolution of the market and the women’s movement in Taiwan.   • Indigenous cultural values and journalism in the Asia-Pacific region: a brief history of Māori journalism

  • A number of scholars in the Asia-Pacific region have in recent years pointed to the importance that cultural values play in influencing journalistic practices. The Asian values debate was followed up with empirical studies showing actual differences in news content when comparing Asian and Western journalism. At the same time, such studies have focused on national cultures only. This paper instead examines the issue against the background of an Indigenous culture in the Asia-Pacific region.   • Linguistic intergroup bias in Chinese crime stories: propaganda model vs. commercial model

  • This study aimed to test linguistic intergroup bias (LIB) in the Chinese media. Language abstraction of crime stories was compared between the propaganda model and the commercial model. The results revealed LIB in Chinese language and Chinese journalism. They can be explained by both motivational and cognitive mechanisms in LIB. Moreover, the study explored the impacts of two contextual factors on LIB – time and occupation. The analysis of time illustrated the development trend of Chinese journalism, where the propaganda model has been revealed to be invading and eroding the commercial model. Năm 2023, Scot Marciel ra mắt cuốn sách dày 529 trang với tiêu đề Imperfect Partners: The United States and Southeast Asia (Tạm dịch: Những đổi tác không hoàn hào: Mỹ và Đông Nam Á). Cuốn sách bao gồm 4 chương, tập trung vào hai nội dung chính: (i) Những thăng trầm trong quan hệ Mỹ với các đổi tác chủ chốt trong khu vực trong 30-40 năm qua; (ii) Đề xuất các biện pháp giúp tăng cường quan hệ Mỹ với các nước Đông Nam Á.
