  • The article focuses on describing some initial consonants and their pronunciation variations in Thanh Hoa dialect; consider the distribution of variations in the survey sites; thereby aiming to provide a general picture of the variations of some initial consonants in different patois. Base on the locating of variations, the article has designed the distribution atlas of these variations that enable the readers to understand more clearly the presence of variations at the surveyed sites.

  • The Thai language belongs to the Tai-Kadai language family. The Thai people refer to their idioms and proverbs as “quam chiêm lang” (words passed down). These language units encapsulate a lot of profound folk knowledge. Surveying 6,602 units of Thai idioms and proverbs, the number “three” occur 132 times. Compared to other numbers, the number “three” appears second most common (following only the number “one”). The number three expresses interesting symbolic meanings including completeness, singular/plural distinctions, taboo implications, complexity, change, and power.   • Terminology is one of the key components of the vocabulary system in any language. In recent years, the study of terminological systems has received increasing attention from researchers. This article analyzes 2.080 legal terms related to civil servants, collected from legal documents and sub-law documents regulating social relations in the field of cadres and civil servants, as well as legal dictionaries. Through this analysis, we point out some characteristics of the method of identification, content categories of the legal terminology system specific to Vietnamese civil servants.

  • Language serves as a “window” into the culture of a nation. Through language, we can understand the culture of a people. Throughout the long development of human history, numbers have played not only a significant role in science but also encompass cultural connotations and social meanings. China and Vietnam, with their contiguous mountains and rivers, both possess long-standing cultural histories. Numerals are widely used in literature, fine arts, art, architecture, and philosophy. Within the scope of this article, we have analyzed the cultural characteristics of numerals and the usage patterns of numerals by the Vietnamese and Chinese people. By identifying these differences, we gain a more multifaceted perspective on this issue.

  • This article aims to explore the theoretical foundations for compiling translation dictionaries between Vietnamese and ethnic minority languages to determine the requirements and solutions for compiling a Hà Nhỉ - Vietnamese and Vietnamese - Hà Nhì translation dictionaries in Vietnam. While translation dictionaries between Vietnamese and ethnic minority languages have some progress, there still remain unresolved issues that need to be researched. These dictionaries have distinctive characteristics, particularly in terms of macro and microstructure.

  • This article discusses the language proficiency of the Nùng people in Cao Bằng province. By examining the Nùng vẻn people’s language proficiency in their native language, writing, Vietnamese and other languages, the article aims to present a picture of their cunent language competence.
