  • Bài viết nghiên cứu cấu trúc vi mô của một số từ điển phương ngữ tiếng Việt. Do các cách tiếp cận khác nhau, trình biên dịch của các từ điển này cung cấp các loại thông tin khác nhau trong cấu trúc vi mô của chúng. Hai thành phần cốt lõi của cấu trúc vi mô là thông tin ngữ nghĩa và ví dụ. Thông qua những thông tin này, những đặc điểm của từ điển phương ngữ được bộc lộ rõ ​​ràng. Ngoài ra, do tính chất của phương ngữ nên thông tin văn hóa cũng có phần nổi bật hơn trong loại từ điển này so với các từ điển ngôn ngữ khác.

  • Phương pháp đánh giá chéo là một kỹ thuật được sử dụng phổ biến trong việc dạy và học tiếng Anh nói chung và kỹ năng viết nói riêng. Việc bộc lộ nhận thức của học sinh về phản hồi của bạn bè sẽ giúp giáo viên cải thiện quá trình giảng dạy của họ. Bài viết nói về một dự án nghiên cứu được thực hiện tại một trường đại học ở Hà Nội. Đối tượng nghiên cứu là 88 sinh viên năm thứ nhất chuyên ngành Tiếng Anh. Nội dung nghiên cứu tập trung vào (1) tìm hiểu thái độ của sinh viên năm thứ nhất đối với phản hồi của bạn bè trong giờ viết và (2) tìm hiểu những khó khăn mà sinh viên gặp phải khi học kỹ năng viết bằng phản hồi của bạn bè.   • First-year college students’ library experience and its impact on their perceptions of academics during the pandemic

  • How did the COVID-19 pandemic affect first-year college students’ library experience and how did their experience affect their GPA? By employing both quantitative and qualitative data collected at a public research university during spring 2021, this article found that first-year students rarely used the physical library, used the online library more often than other undergraduates, perceived the library as having a positive impact on their coursework, and determined that the online library resources and services were a primary contributor to their academic performance. Recommendations on how to improve library service and avenues for future research are provided.

  • Writing library database descriptions in Plain Language

  • Plain Language is writing intended to be easily comprehensible by its intended audience. Used in government, legal, medical, and now educational writing, the primary goals of Plain Language are greater usability and equitable access. Current practices of describing databases to library users prioritizes marketing language and targets an audience of experts. In this article, the authors share applying Plain Language to library database descriptions to make them more understandable to novice undergraduate researchers. In revising the entire database list using Plain Language principles, they identified best practices for database descriptions. Initial usability results from the project are included.

  • World of possibilities: Agency in female drug literature

  • Literature's ability to provide a different repertoire of experience from those presented in other discursive frameworks and institutions situates it as a unique force in the function of ‘worldmaking.’ Drawing on Bakhtinian notions of literary discourse and the carnivalesque, this article examines the subversive nature of drug literature to create ‘a world inside out.’ Within drug literature, rules are inverted, authority mocked, the non-conformists are centre stage, and the ‘world’ is perceived and reconstructed via them. A comparative analysis of male and female drug literature in the works of William S. Burroughs and Anna Kavan also reveals the implication of gender on literary worlds.   • Real Men Read – A library led reading initiative program

  • The goal of the Real Men Read initiative was to provide Pre-K- 6 students, especially boys, the opportunity to meet male mentors from the William Paterson University community who have a love of reading and learning. Mentors read grade appropriate books to Pre-K-6 classes in northern New Jersey school districts. The initiative was organized by the David and Lorraine Cheng Library and partnered with the university’s College of Education to identify and place mentors at nearby schools. The successful initiative brought mentors to different schools and elicited a positive response from all the elementary classes involved.

  • JAIME HARKER. Middlebrow Queer: Christopher Isherwood in America. Minneapolis and London: University of Minnesota Press, 2013. The title of Jaime Harker’s recent study, Middlebrow Queer: Christopher Isherwood in America, is, as Harker admits, ‘intentionally provocative’ (xiii–xiv). Not the ‘queer’ part of it, of course. More than twenty years of queer theory has succeeded in taking the sting out of that former pejorative as queer studies has become a mainstay of academia.
