Tác giả : Manuel Aguirre (2015-12) - No study of formulaic language in Gothic fiction is currently available. This article explores the structure of Gothic formulaic discourse in one of the ‘Northanger novels,’ The Necromancer (1794). Using the corpus-linguistics concept of collocation, as well as insights from the oral-formulaic theory of composition, the article distinguishes formula from formulaic pattern and proposes a definition for the latter concept centred on the notion of ‘field.’ Whereas this novel has often been berated for its incoherence, subsequent analysis shows that formulaic language builds up complex fractal networks that belie this charge and also suggests that Gothic is best looked at as a liminal genre, halfway between literary and folk narrative.

Tác giả : John Glendening (2016-04) - Set in 1912, Penelope Fitzgerald's The Gate of Angels (1990) registers cultural trends marking the early twentieth century as it engages and transforms its Victorian heritage. It does so particularly regarding two phenomena: the impact of science, centred on the shift from classical to modern physics, and the growth of secularism. By evoking a world of unexpectedness and chance, as suggested by the early stages of atomic theory and quantum mechanics, it holds open a gate for admission of the potentially extraordinary—in particular, a human capacity for self-transcendence and for mutual caring that both science and religion can be judged by their ability to promote or retard.

Tác giả : Alison Cardinale (2015-12) - For today's readers of Romantic poetry, ‘uncertainty'—with its implications for a post-Heisenberg philosophical worldview—carries a great deal of scientific baggage. If, then, we allow for the uncertainty principle and admit probability at the micro level of a poem, the issue of volition and determinism becomes less straightforward than it might appear on a conventional reading of Coleridge's poetry. The transitions that enable Coleridgean creative acts in the early poems identify a need to reconceptualize the vital Coleridgean principle of the lene clinamen.

He argues that the window acts as ‘a connection of inner space with the external world.’ He argues that ‘the teleological emotion with respect to the window is directed almost exclusively from inside to outside.’ Simmel speaks of the window as a mediating entity, a structural attribute that separates. With Simmel’s comments in mind, this essay examines two poems: one from the seventeenth-century by George Herbert, and another from the twentieth-century by Philip Larkin.

Chỉ khi hiểu được nhu cầu bôi dưỡng truyền thông chính sách của đội ngũ phóng viên, các cơ sở đào tạo báo chí - truyền thông mới có thể xây dựng chương trình bồi dường hợp lý, thiết thực và hiệu quả.
